QR Code ToolKit - Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2025
This privacy policy describes how the QR Code ToolKit Chrome extension ("Extension") handles your information.
Privacy First Approach
The QR Code ToolKit extension is designed with privacy as our top priority. We believe your data should stay on your device, and we've built the extension to operate entirely offline after installation.
What Information We Collect
Local Data Only: The extension operates entirely on your device. When you generate QR codes, all processing happens locally in your browser. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of the content you use to generate QR codes.
- QR Code Content: All text, URLs, contact information, Wi-Fi credentials, and other data you enter stays on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
- Settings & Preferences: Your customization settings (colors, sizes, error correction levels) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API.
- Generated QR Codes: QR code images are generated locally and can be downloaded to your device. We do not store copies of your QR codes.
Optional Anonymous Analytics
The extension includes optional anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the product. This feature is:
- Opt-in Only: Analytics are disabled by default. You must explicitly enable them in the extension settings.
- Anonymous: If enabled, we only collect anonymous usage statistics like QR code type frequency and feature usage.
- No Personal Data: We never collect the actual content of your QR codes, personal information, or browsing history.
Chrome Extension Permissions
The extension requests minimal permissions to function:
- Storage: To save your preferences and settings locally in your browser.
- Active Tab: To automatically fill in the current page URL when generating website QR codes.
- Host Permissions (PostHog): Only used if you opt-in to anonymous analytics. This allows sending anonymous usage statistics to our analytics service.
Third-Party Services
The extension is designed to work entirely offline. However, if you opt-in to analytics:
PostHog: We use PostHog for anonymous analytics (only if you opt-in). PostHog is a privacy-focused analytics platform that helps us understand how users interact with the extension without collecting personal data.
Data Security
Since all QR code generation happens locally on your device, your data never leaves your browser. This provides the highest level of security for your information. Your QR code content, settings, and generated codes are stored only on your device using Chrome's secure storage mechanisms.
Your Rights and Controls
- Complete Control: You can disable analytics at any time in the extension settings.
- Data Deletion: You can clear all extension data by removing the extension or clearing your browser data.
- Uninstall: Removing the extension immediately deletes all locally stored data and settings.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
